Class 56

The Farish Class 56 looks wrong, if you compare it to their 47 the cab windows start and end to high and as a result the cab roof is too shallow. I bought a Farish 56 body to see whether it would be practical to alter the cab fronts to look more accurate. The results are below - it appears here on the chassis from my Class 57.

Description

File down the bottom part of the cab windscreens and added styrene to the top, retaining the size and shape so that the original glazing could be reinstalled.
File and sand the cab roof to match the contours of the real thing!
The model was repainted and Fox Transfers were applied. For paint I used Halfords aerosols, Renault Etruscan Red is a good match for the shade used by Farish on my Class 37. A couple of thinned coats of Humbrol model cote were applied to seal the transfers. For the time being the loco is in quite a glossy finish - this may or may not get replaced with silk or matt later.
I chose to number the model as 56115 having found photos of both sides of the loco on Steve Jones' photo gallery. 24 hours after completing the loco I got the chance to look around second choice 56117 at Bristol Parkway, sigh!
